Phytoplankton are microscopic algae that provide oxygen, consume CO2 and are the base of the foodweb of the Arctic Ocean. We study the current and future controls of phytoplankton species composition and Arctic primary production by a combination of spring bloom field moniotoring in Kongsfjorden and experiments in the Marine Lab (this year studying marine heat waves).
