How does the marine ecosystem look like during the cold and dark polar night? The Arctic has mostly been studied under bright, relatively mild, and ice‑free conditions – leaving the polar night largely a scientific mystery.

The International Kongsfjorden Year 2024/2025 set out to address this knowledge gap. Scientists from different institutions and countries joined forces to study the unknown, across all seasons of the year.
