Ny-Ålesund Research Station Newsletter

At the time of preparing this newsletter, Ny-Ålesund is still in winter mode. But a quick glance at images taken by the web camera at the Zeppelin Observatory shows the sun shining on the peaks of Kongsfjorden. In other words, spring is just around the corner!

With spring comes a marked uptick in activity. Perhaps the best illustration of just how much research actually goes on in a normal year at Ny-Ålesund Research Station is the sheer number of peer-reviewed articles being produced by all of you. The most recent overview (for 2024) is available here. Check that your publications are among the 104 listed, and send us an email to help us fill any gaps.

Some of us will meet in Potsdam, Germany, in less than a month for this year's first NySMAC meeting. Many more of us will cross paths in Ny-Ålesund in the coming months. We wish you all a productive 2025!

New booking routines in The Research in Svalbard portal (RiS)

To improve workflow efficiency, Kings Bay is implementing new routines for evaluating RiS bookings:
  • One Booking per Arrival and Departure Date
Each booking should only include travellers who arrive and depart on the same dates. Larger projects must create separate bookings for groups with different travel schedules.
  • One Booking, One Invoice
Kings Bay accept only one billing address per booking/stay. Costs cannot be split among multiple recipients within the same booking. For special requests, contact Kings Bay reception at reception@kingsbay.no.
These changes ensure a smoother booking and billing process. Thank you for your cooperation!
