Ny-Ålesund Research Station Newsletter
As is common this time of year in Ny-Ålesund, the peak summer activity is behind us. As usual, though, the regular measurements and monitoring programmes continue through the winter, providing the international research community with important data to help us understand and explain the Arctic systems. It is also worth mentioning that the project "The International Kongsfjorden Year" is up and running, aiming to collect year-round, high-resolution, multidisciplinary data on core parameters of the marine ecosystem in Kongsfjorden. Read more about the project and about the Kongsfjorden CTD data portal here.

Next week, many of us will meet in Rome for the 61st NySMAC meeting - generously hosted by CNR. As always, the meeting will provide an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, and build stronger relationships. However, this particular NySMAC meeting hosted on this particular location, will also be marked by a feeling of profound sadness. Angela Augusti, who would have been a key participant both because of her employment at CNR and as chair of the terrestrial flagship, passed away after a brief illness less than a month ago. Through her dedication to her work, through her active role in strengthening the research community that she was a part of, and through her leadership in the terrestrial flagship, she was an inspiration to those who had the pleasure of working with her. Our thoughts are with Angela's family, friends and colleagues.
